Before you hand your phone over for repair, there's one thing you should always do first: back it up.

We don't erase your data during repairs — your photos, messages, and apps stay right where they are. But electronics are unpredictable, and a backup means zero risk of losing anything important.

Here's exactly how to do it, whether you're on iPhone or Android.

iPhone Backup (iCloud)

This is the fastest option and doesn't require a computer.

1. Connect to Wi-Fi
2. Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup
3. Tap "Back Up Now"
4. Wait until the progress bar completes (usually 5–20 minutes depending on how much data you have)

iPhone Backup to Computer (iTunes/Finder)

1. Connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac with a Lightning/USB-C cable
2. Windows: Open iTunes. Mac (Catalina+): Open Finder
3. Click your device icon
4. Check "Encrypt local backup" (this includes passwords and Health data)
5. Click "Back Up Now"
6. Wait for the backup to complete (10–30 minutes for a full backup)

Android Backup (Google)

• Photos: Even with cloud backup, check that your most recent photos have synced. Open Google Photos or iCloud Photos and look for the "Up to date" confirmation
• WhatsApp / Signal / Telegram: These apps have their own backup systems. Go to each app's settings and run a manual backup
• Authenticator apps: If you use Google Authenticator or similar 2FA apps, make sure you have backup codes saved somewhere. Losing access to your authenticator can lock you out of important accounts
• Game progress: Check if your games sync to the cloud. Many do automatically, but some store progress locally only
