Your phone is plugged in but barely charging. Or it only works at a certain angle. Or it just stopped entirely. Before you assume the worst, there's a simple fix that works 60% of the time.

The #1 Cause: Pocket Lint in the Port

This is by far the most common charging problem we see. Lint, dust, and debris from your pocket slowly compress into the bottom of the charging port over months. Eventually there's so much packed in that the cable can't fully seat — and you get intermittent or no charging.

How to Clean It (Carefully)

1. Power off your phone
2. Use a wooden or plastic toothpick (NOT metal — you can short the pins)
3. Gently scrape along the bottom of the port, pulling debris toward you
4. You'll be surprised how much comes out — sometimes a visible clump of compacted lint
5. Try your cable again. If it clicks in more firmly, that was the problem

• Check for iOS/Android updates — charging bugs get patched in OS updates
• Boot into Safe Mode (Android) to rule out a rogue app interfering with charging

Worn-Out Port

After thousands of plug/unplug cycles, the physical connector wears down. Signs:

• Cable feels loose — doesn't click in firmly like it used to
• Only charges at a specific angle
• Charges fine wirelessly but not wired (if your phone supports wireless)
